WORK & REWARD
It is human nature, they say, that when something
is done, there is an expectation of a reward or return of
some kind. A boy studies hard; he does so in the hope that
he would come out with flying colours in the examination.
A man works hard; he expects that he would be rewarded with
a quick promotion. So on it goes. Even with God there are
expectations; the devotee worships intensely and expects God
to reward him with wealth, prosperity, etc.
Krishna has dealt with this question of work and reward in
the Gita, and our beloved Swami has given an incisive
analysis of the question. Baba says [in effect]:
