śivapancākṣara stōtram
nāgēndrahārāya trilōcanāya
bhasmāṅgarāgāya mahēśvarāya |
nityāya śuddhāya digambarāya
tasmai nakārāya namaḥ śivāya || 1 ||
He who wears the king of serpents as a garland, the Three-eyed,
Whose body is adorned with ashes smeared, the Lord Supreme,
The Eternal and Pure, Who is garbed in the eight directions (Diks),
Who is represented by the syllable ‘na’, Salutations to that Lord Shiva.
mandākinī salila candana carcitāya
nandīśvara pramathanātha mahēśvarāya |
mandāra mukhya bahupuṣpa supūjitāya
tasmai makāra mahitāya namaḥ śivāya || 2 ||
He who’s worshipped with waters of river Mandakini, smeared with sandal paste,
Who’s the Lord of Nandi, and of goblins and ghosts, the Lord Supreme,
Worshiped specially with hibiscus and many other kinds of flowers,
Who is represented by the syllable ‘ma’, Salutations to that Lord Shiva.
śivāya gaurī vadanābja vṛnda sūryāya
dakṣādhvara nāśakāya |
śrī nīlakaṇṭhāya vṛṣabhdhvajāya
tasmai śikārāya namaḥ śivāya || 3 ||
He who is all-auspiciousness, the Sun that causes the lotus face of Mother Gowri to blossom,
The destroyer of the yajna of Daksha,
Of blue hued neck, who has bull for His ensign,
Who is represented by the syllable ‘shi’, Salutations to that Lord Shiva.
vaśiṣṭha kumbhōdbhava gautamārya
munīndra dēvārcita śēkharāya |
candrārka vaiśvānara lōcanāya
tasmai vakārāya namaḥ śivāya || 4 ||
He who is worshiped by venerable sages such as Vasishtha, Agastya, Gautama,
and also by the Gods, who is the Crown of the Universe,
The One who has the moon, sun and fire as His three eyes,
Who is represented by the syllable ‘va’, Salutations to that Lord Shiva.
yakṣa svarūpāya jaṭādharāya
pināka hastāya sanātanāya |
divyāya dēvāya digambarāya
tasmai yakārāya namaḥ śivāya || 5 ||
He who bears the form of a Yaksha, who has matted hair,
The wielder of the bow Pinaka, the Eternal One,
The splendorous God, Who is garbed in the eight directions (minimum attire),
Who is represented by the syllable ‘ya’, Salutations to that Lord Shiva.
pancākṣaramidam puṇyam
yaḥ paṭhēt śiva sannidhau |
śivalōkamavāpnōti śivēna saha mōdatē ||
Whoever recites this meritorious sacred five-syllabled mantra
in the sanctum of Lord Shiva, attains Lord Shiva’s divine abode and revels in Lord Shiva.
