Dear Children,
We often do the mistake of thinking that our happiness arises from possessing objects. When we believe thus, we tend to think that the more we possess, the more happy we can be. But this is untrue, for greed only leads to misery and pain. Come, let us read this Chinnakatha told to us by our beloved Swami that stresses this very lesson. More>>

RECLAIMING SHAKTI
Recognising and nurturing the gentler side of our being

Posted on: Nov 17, 2013

'From ancient times, the feminine aspect of the Divine has been worshipped in various ways. The Vedas declare that where women are honoured and esteemed, there divinity is present with all its potency. Unfortunately, today men consider it demeaning to honour women. This is utterly wrong. It is a sign of ignorance. A typical woman is described as Adi Shakti - the primal source of all energy having a whole array of powers. She is hailed as the mother of the children of immortality or Amrutasya Putrah."

  • The Property of Attraction

Every magnet has a range of magnetism. This field is called the magnetic field. Whatever comes in the range of a permanent magnet gets attracted to it. But a magnet attracts only pure iron objects. It does not attract rusted or dirty pieces of iron. Swami is like a magnet and we are like iron filings. If we want to get attracted to Swami, we should be clean and pure. If we are rusted, that is, if we have bad thoughts and have no values, we won’t get attracted to Him.

Ashwin Venkatesvaran was in no mood to celebrate his birthday this year. It was not as if he was enthusiastic and excited about any of his birthdays before but this year, it had almost slipped his mind that it was his ‘special day’. This group had a study circle wherein they discussed not only about Q’uran, the Muslim holy book, but also spirituality in general. THE GRAND ESSENCE OF KRISHNA'S ADVENT
Posted on: Aug 28, 2013

When the Divine comes down as Avatar – be as Rama or as Krishna, Matsya (fish), Varaha (boar) or Vamana (dwarf) - it is only for one purpose. You recognise only the momentary results of the advent. But you should note that the Divine comes as Avatar only to teach mankind the truth about love. 'Oh man, it is because you lack love and are filled with selfishness that the world is plunging in so much conflict and chaos. It is only when you develop love and the spirit of sacrifice that you will realise the divinity that is in the human.' The man who has no spirit of thyaga (sacrifice) will be a prey to all ills.

He then appropriated to Himself what always belonged to Him - the butter of Faith. This butter is the result of the churning of the mind, the spiritual discipline of self-purification." Ruminating over this message let us enjoy glimpses of the celebrations from the various hostels of Swami.

CRAZY FOR KRISHNA
Posted on: Aug 28, 2013

Just close your eyes. Picturise an island, beautiful, green and serene. From somewhere comes this ethereal tune. It's tugging your heart. Your legs are drawn towards that direction, quite unconsciously. That rhythm is calling you. You walk. Stop. Walk again. Move on as if possessed. Until you reach a spot from where you witness a scene. That simply transports you. A magic is unfolding there. Dozens of little hearts lost in bliss. Going in circles. In rhythm. In joy. In ecstasy. In a madness that is simply elevating... at the centre is this Super Natural Charm. Captivating. Spellbinding. Charismatic. Everyone is crazy for Krishna!

Rights are the fruits of freedom and freedom is the staff of independence.  In other words, modern man wants independence, right from a suckling baby to the stuporing old man. The spirit of unity is fast depleting like the ozone layer. No one wants to look back like Julius Ceaser and none has the boon of sound sleep as described in Charles Dickens ‘city night peace’. Satsang with Techie - Part 04
Posted on: July 28, 2013

The macro and the micro are ALWAYS strongly interlinked; which means that it is foolish and artificial to try and live in a bubble, cut off from the rest of Society. And that precisely is what many people who are well-off like to do. They feel secure in the insulation which the bubble they create for themselves appears to provide - imaginary isolation, I must stress. In practice of course, every bubble that humans create for themselves to achieve insulation and security bursts one day or the other. People do not realise that, and do not think about what would happen to them when they lose the bubble. In the meantime, they live in their imaginary world of full security and happiness, feeling totally insulated from the turbulent Society just outside a very thin wall!

Some said I was in Samaadhi, as if I am aSadhaka! Some feared I was the victim of black magic, as if anything can affect Me! The splendour of this Avatar will go on increasing, day by day. When the Govardhanagiri was raised aloft by the little boy (Krishna), the gopees and gopalas realised that Krishna was the Lord Himself. Next time you sit down to watch a cricket match, another game begins in your mind – are these men on the field playing or acting? Are they really putting their heart and soul into the match in the true spirit of sportsmanship or is there something else working in the back of their minds manipulating their moves?

A Train of Throughts on Life

Posted on: June 17, 2013

Travelling by trains in India is a unique experience – one like which you will rarely find in any other country. Well for starters, there are different classes of compartments ranging from the cramped, often not-so-clean, crowded, ‘unreserved’ compartments to the clean, air-conditioned, well-serviced first-class compartments. Then there are berths for one to sleep on because most of the train journeys in India last at least a day (the country is so huge). Apart from the actual journey, the ways by which one has to make reservations, use waiting-lists and getting upgraded also come into picture. This is a musing by a passenger on one such train journey in India.

Becoming Buddha

Posted on: May 25, 2013

It was the day of Buddha Poornima ten years ago. Baba was then not in Prasanthi Nilayam or in Bangalore but in the tranquil hill station of Kodaikanal – the serene spot amidst dark forests, tucked away in the Upper Palani Hills in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Baba being in Kodaikanal in 2003 was of course nothing new as many a summer of the Divine had been spent in this green valley; right from 1986 Baba often came here with a group of students and elders to the delight of the inhabitants of this hilly little town.

Law of Karma - Ms. U.Suma
Posted on: May 17, 2013

What is Karma? Karma is an activity, which all the human beings have to perform, until death releases them from this body prison. Man cannot live for a moment without doing Karma. Even while he is sleeping, the breathing process becomes his Karma. Karma is the cause of man's bondage to the cycle of birth and death.

The life has been given to man to sort out the consequences of the previous Karma deliberately done, in many past lives, as well as in present life. Man cannot be liberated, until and unless he has sorted out and neutralized all effects of past and present Karma, and bringing the Karmic balance to nil.

Imagine the life of a mother who is constantly in a state of awe and anxiety; awe because right from His birth her son seems to be doing extraordinary feats – materialising things out of thin air to ordering the rain and wind Gods at His whim and will to daring to advise elders on right conduct who are five times His age! His every act and word is simply a conundrum – a puzzle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma!

Serving Sai - within & without
Posted on: Apr 26, 2013

Aradhana Mahotsavam is a day of worshipful remembrance. An offering made on such an occasion must be something that pleases Bhagawan, and He is most delighted when His children are served. To mark this solemn day, a Narayana Seva at the Hill View Stadium and Anna Prasadam for all devotees were arranged. In all close to fifty thousand people partook Bhagawan's Prasadam, and clothes were given to about twenty seven thousand Narayanas who gathered in the stadium under the specially erected marquees.

Learning to Love HIM Truly - A Sai student reflects on the agonising moments of April 24-26, 2011
Posted on: Apr 22, 2013

I was sitting in a state of denial. Even as I walked to mandir on that fateful day (April 24 2011), I had heard the rumours that it was all over. I walked by with a sneer, for how can it ever be, I thought. Had we also not got used to rumours in the past couple of weeks. ‘What do they think of my Swami’, I would grumble to myself...

Musing on the Gita - 05
by Prof. G. Venkataraman

Posted on: Apr 15, 2013

The Karma Yogi is fully involved with the world. Such people get married, raise a family, and so on and yet are involved in Yoga or seeking union with God. Then there are others, the Sannyasis, who are supposed to have renounced the world and have become a recluse. Many of them often spend hours in meditation. The world admires such souls and reveres them too. It would thus appear that there are two distinct categories of people, the holy and the ordinary, shall I say? On the face of it, the holy man might appear superior. Does that mean we write off all the so-called ordinary Joes? In the Fifth Chapter, the Lord gives the assurance that where He is concerned, He does not write off anyone. For Him, both categories merit His attention and Grace, provided……

DISCOURSE WALKTHROUGH - 01
by Prof. G. Venkataraman

Posted on: Mar 24, 2013

There is nothing wrong with that since it was God Himself who gave living beings the blessing of sense-perception. By the way, senses were meant for physical survival. Yes, senses do reveal all sorts of shapes and forms, and there is a limited reality to what they disclose. However, where Total Reality is concerned – and I stress the word Total – we should not stop with what the senses alone reveal.

His ornaments were of the finest variety: silver, copper, gold and bronze. Even the toggles on his tunic were priceless netsuke: masterfully carved figures of animals, insects, dragons and fishes, made of the purest ivory. He lived with his wife and elderly mother in an elegant tiled house in the best quarter of the town. He frequently drank the rarest and finest of teas, and often dined in the most expensive restaurants. His wife Ayako was considered the most beautiful woman in the kingdom, and his aged mother was much celebrated for her wisdom and learning.

It is a joy to witness all these wonderful projects happening. As Swami said, “My work will go on.” He is blessing more and more devotees in many ways, who are experiencing His omnipresence and His love much more than ever before. In the past we thought Sai was Parthi Vaasa, residing in Parthi. Now we experience Him as Hridaya Vaasi – residing in our hearts. He is omnipresent! We can feel His presence and love everywhere, and that is not only my experience but that of devotees all around the world.

When it comes to a life with the Divine, numbers and quantities go out of the window. It does not matter whether one was in the Divine presence for a few moments or for a few years – just the fact that one was IN THE DIVINE PRESENCE is enough to redeem. In this context, the life of Sathya Geeta is one that is sure to arouse envy even in the angels of highest heavens.

On January 19, 2013 the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, Bangalore celebrates the 12th year of its existence. When Baba gifted this Hospital to the world in the presence of the then Prime Minister of India, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on January 19, 2001, He said, “This (Hospital) is not operating for financial gains. Doctors should win over the minds of the patients by talking to them with compassion and concern. The diseases are half-cured when the doctors win over the minds of patients by talking to them with love and consideration. The doctors should administer the injection of courage and encouragement. Compassion is more important than money.”

Youth is energy, excitement, adventure and exuberance. And education that does not harness positively these innate traits of the young cannot be complete. Bhagawan achieved this through an event that is common in other educational institutions too, but very unique in spirit. It is the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet of the Sri Sathya Sai Institutions. Though the event, in its quality, today is far grander and impressive compared to most other institution's, its specialty goes beyond that.

The Pastor's Sermons

In the suggestion box of a church a pastor once found a bitter note. It read, “Father, I have been attending your sermons for years, coming in week after week to hear your wise words.“But come to think of it, I do not remember even one of the thousands of sermons you have delivered. I feel it is a lot of time wasted on my part to have come here to listen to you and you too have spent plenty of time delivering them but of no avail”.

Study Circle - Part 08

Swami says that when a small child cries without eating food, his mother cajoles it saying, “Look, look here, look at the moon”. She points out to the moon. The child looks at the sky with his mouth agape. The mother places a morsel of food in his mouth. Then she points out to a branch and says, “Do you see the moon over those branches?” But where is the tree branch and where is the moon? They are miles and miles apart. Bhagawan says even analogies should not be stretched too far trying to analyse and look into the nitty gritty. We need to grasp the message from these examples.
